See there are films that are stupid on purpose and then there are pretenders that try to be stupid movies. I am going to go on record as of right now Piranha 3D is the truth and run away champ for best stupid movie that I have seen in a while. Yes this can’t be enjoyed by everyone and that is understandable but realise that this is a film that went for the gusto in sheer cheese on purpose and isn’t a movie that tried to be good but was so dumb that it was good. That is a distinction that must be made because it is hard as it might sound it is hard to not cross that line. For any new readers out there I should let you know that one of my favorite films is Usual Suspects and Children of Men, so I do like high-minded films just as much as the low-end ones.
Plot aside (because in all honesty do you really need to know the plot?) the reason you watch this film is for how far the film makers go with the nakedness and gore. For example there is a good chunk of the movie that has these prehistoric piranhas feeding on a bunch of spring breakers to a bloody extreme. There is one scene that has two naked girls doing some underwater ballet thing that had my girlfriend Irene laughing. The film is filled with WTF moments that had me rolling. I must say though that the special effects are pretty cheap looking but that is part of the appeal of a film like this in opinion. It just add to the whole films aesthetic.
Watching this film inebriated (which Irene and I where) with a group of your friends isn’t required but will definitely help in amplifying your enjoyment. While the 3D isn’t ground breaking of Avatar levels, it was the best use of the 3D as gag (you know the whole movie coming at you effect) that I can think of. That said you can still enjoy this stupid movie with out the 3D and enjoy it because of how stupid it is.
